The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) has been delivering exhilarating performances year after year, and one man who has been the constant for the last 15 years is Kaycee Feild. One of the greatest bareback riders, Kaycee was crowned the PRCA bareback riding world champion an astonishing 6 times in his career. Now, as he enjoys the post-rodeo life, he has the reasons to share behind the decision.

The 36-year-old was last crowned the World champion in 2021 and missed the NFR qualification in 2023 after finishing 16th. Although he still won a few major rodeo contests last year, Feild later announced his retirement last year in November and has now revealed the reason.

Kaycee Feild reveals retirement reasons

In the latest video uploaded on his YouTube, Kaycee Feild spoke at length about his 2023 experience, and how he sees his retirement and after-retirement plans. Kaycee announced his retirement last year in November, and for now, is enjoying his time off. “Retirement. I started talking about it two years ago“, he revealed. The 36-year-old reasoned that his family was the major reason behind his retirement. “There are things going at home that I want to win at“, he expressed.

Kaycee further explained that his family was growing fast, and he didn’t want to miss that. “There are things that I have missed, like I’ll never have a chance to go and support”, the 13x NFR qualifier added. After winning the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Bareback title in 2008, the 36-year-old remained one of the most fearsome riders for 15 years until hanging up his boots last year. But, he has also hinted at a return, although in a different capacity.

Despite being in the last year of his career, Kaycee Feild was still one of the dominant forces in 2023. He won the Darby Xtreme Bareback Qualifier and Wing and Barrel Western Days among other coveted contests. As he enjoys his retirement time with family now, there’s a strong possibility we could see him back in the rodeo world but as a commentator.

In the same vlog-type episode on his channel, a TV commentator revealed that he had asked Kaycee to join the commentating crew in September last year but his response was a no. When asked whether today was a possibility, the 6x World Champion replied, “I do love the sport and you know working with you is a lot of fun“. Although his tone suggested a possibility, he didn’t explicitly say he was joining any television group yet. Nonetheless, it was truly a privilege watching the great man conquer NFR year after year.
