Recently, 7News Central Queensland shared a post on Facebook about the recent bull riding event. They captioned it as,” Local Grammar school students are organising a charity fundraiser on Saturday that’s not your usual cake drive or fun run. Rockhampton Girls Grammar is holding a bull-riding challenge, to see who can go the distance for a worthy cause.”

The post further discussed an unconventional high school fundraiser by Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. They host an annual bull barrel event on Saturdays to raise money. The funds are useful in supporting Central Queensland’s information and referral service. One student stated, ‘We have over 100 volunteers.’. While another student, Claudia Johnstone, mentioned that they’re expecting some intense moments with bulls and barrels, including 135 barrel races.

This marks the 13th year of organizing this event, and they aim to surpass last year’s fundraising achievement. The Bull and Barrels coordinator, Jacqui Goltz, revealed that they donated $4,075 to women’s health and referral services last year. This unique approach is likely to attract interest and participants while supporting a worthy cause. However, Rockhampton Girls Grammar School (RGGS) boasts a remarkable history of achievements in bull riding.

Unforgettable achievements of RGGS

In 2013, RGGS student Brooke Williams made history as the first female to compete in the National Rodeo Association (NRA) Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) National Finals Rodeo (NFR). Two years later, in 2015, RGGS student Georgia Williams clinched victory in the NFR Bull Riding event, becoming the inaugural female to secure a national bull riding title in Australia.

Furthermore, RGGS students have consistently excelled by claiming numerous state and national bull riding titles over the years. The RGGS bull riding team has shown dominance in both the Australian Secondary School Rodeo Association (ASSRA) National Bull Riding Championship and the Queensland Secondary School Rodeo Association (QSSRA) State Bull Riding Championship, winning multiple times in each competition.
