Rodeo Champions Open Up on the Thrills and Challenges of their Latest Horse Bucking Adventure

Rodeo, as a sport, is replete with thrills and possesses exuberance that other sports somewhat fail to replicate. A lot of painstaking work and effort goes into making the end product that viewers get to see, whether live or on the screens. Pro Rodeo Canada seized the opportunity and sought to provide a sneak peek into what goes on behind the scenes. With the Cowboy Channel’s assistance, they came up with a masterpiece.

Pro Rodeo Canada unveiled its 2:12-long latest promo video. It starred a number of bucking horse riders as well as some prominent bucking horses. Two of them named in the video were Virgil and Xplosive Skies. Xplosive Skies was bred at the Calgary Stampede ranch and named the 2023 PRCA Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year. The latest video, featuring a smorgasbord of entertainment for rodeo fans, has them hooked.

The handle @ProRodeoHorses shared the promo video on X. It featured some of the best in the business, from bucking horses to their riders. Adjoining the video, the words read, “CANADIAN BUCKING HORSES. NFR HORSEPOWER. We sure do love our Canadian bucking horses and bucking horse riders! Thank you to our friends at the @cowboychannel for this awesome feature – Pro Rodeo Canada.”

Zeke Thurston, a three-time World champion, and NFR qualifiers Dawson Hay and Orin Larsen were the riders who featured in the promo. Aside from the riders, many running ranches also starred in the promo video. For instance, there were ranch managers, Tyson Cardinal and Tyler Kraft, as well as flankman Willy Macza. That trio affirmed their respective efforts to breed great bucking horses.

Attempting to breed great bucking horses suited for the weather

One cardinal rule with breeding great bucking horses in Canada is to ensure they survive the unforgiving weather conditions. Winters in Canada are bone-chilling and cruel, as per Tyson Cardinal, the ranch manager of C5 Rodeo Company. Toward that end, the ranch managers feed their horses a great deal. That is essential to make sure they are built for the weather and ready to roll, according to Tyler Kraft, the ranch manager of Calgary Stampede.

With the dangers accompanying riding a bucking horse, it takes a certain breed to earn success in the sport. While there are plenty of challenges, the rewards outweigh the risks for the rodeo icons.
