“Are You F***ING SERIOUS?”: Knowing One of Metal’s Greatest Bands Will Honor Tony Hawk Sent Fellow Skating Legend Into Absolute Shock

Every sports enthusiast knows the ace of modern vertical skateboarding, Tony Hawk. Apart from being an entertainer and entrepreneur, he is also known for being a philanthropist. One of the big 4s of the metal world recently honored the athlete recognizing his efforts to make numerous charitable donations to various non-profit organizations. However, the news prompted an unexpected result from a fellow skating legend.

Hawk appeared at the LA concert of Metallica in a benefit for their charity foundation All Within My Hands. As it turns out, Metallica has a history of honoring people for their charitable initiatives and Tony Hawk is a recent recipient.

Metallica honors Tony Hawk

When Hawk broke the piece of news to co-host and fellow skateboarding pro Jason Ellis, he was shaken to the core, during a segment of their podcast Hawk vs Wolf. Tony’s various charities throughout his career drew him to the attention of the All Within My Hands Foundation. In his discussion with Ellis, the Birdman elucidates how he has been called upon by one of the giants of the metal music industry. None other than Metallica funds the foundation.

“You know Metallica has this All Within My Hands foundation? We got to go to their event in San Francisco a few years ago,” said the 54-year-old retired athlete. “Each event they honor someone for charity work, and they’re honoring me next week,” he told Jason Ellis.

“What? …Metallica is? What the f**k? Are you f**king serious?” a confused Ellis held his breath in excitement. “Yeah and I’m sorry I couldn’t extend tickets to you,” an elated Tony continued, “It’s amazing.”

Fans were happy to hear Hawk’s announcement as he later appeared in LA

The fans of the skateboarding community were ecstatic to hear the news. “I love how genuinely happy and excited Jason gets when Tony tells him something like the Metallica thing. We all need a friend like him,” commented one fan. “First arena show Metallica Justice/Damage tour, have fun Tony and congrats!!,” wrote another.

On December 16, Tony Hawk appeared in Los Angeles for the Metallica concert, dressed in black with a cane in one hand. He slammed the LA authorities as they had recently poured 37 tonnes of sand into skateparks to stop eager skaters from using the bowls.

Previously, he broke his leg in a skating accident earlier this year. Arriving with his cane, he used the stage to send a message. “You can’t stop us.” the Birdman stated. Furthermore, Hawk explained “It’s been going 20 years now,” talking about his Skatepark Project which was founded in 2002 and helps to promote his sport in underprivileged neighborhoods.
