Some people take years to learn how to skateboard properly. And this is with two fully functioning legs that don’t give them any trouble. When it comes to performing tricks with a skateboard, it might take even longer. Then there is Tony Hawk, who makes doing tricks on skateboards look as easy as it can be. But what about when he has a broken leg?

Well, turns out, even a broken leg can’t stop Tony Hawk from performing insane tricks on his skateboard.

The skating legends Tony Hawk and Jason Ellis recently appeared on an episode of the podcast Your Mom’s House, and while in conversation with the hosts of the podcast, Ellis recounted an unbelievable story related to Hawk. Tony Hawk had suffered a severe leg injury that resulted in a fracture. But before he got it fixed, he did something astonishing. He performed tricks with a broken leg, and Ellis was blown away. His reaction, to be precise, was, “I see the video and I’m like, you’re a f**ing maniac.”

While talking on the episode, Ellis recalls, “Before he got it fixed he did a trick called a backside boneless, where you fly into the air and you put one foot on the coping and you stand on that one foot and then you jump back in and you land on both feet on the board.”

Sounds easy right? Definitely not. And Hawk did this with a leg that was not even attached properly. Ellis added, “On the broken leg that isn’t attached, that’s the leg that’s standing on the coping and he did that. And if you’re good that’s still a difficult trick to do but when your leg is not attached to your leg, and you do it for like an hour until you make it…” Witnessing Hawk do something that was in the realm of impossible, simply blew Ellis away. But that’s not all that it did.

Jason Ellis realized just how tough Tony Hawk is

While listening to Hawk talk, it’s easy to tell that he is a pretty humble guy in general, and definitely not someone who would walk around beating their chest. It was at this instance that Ellis realized Hawk was way tougher than he actually showed. Jason Ellis said, “…it just made me look at.. because he’s not… he never acts tough.”

And while Ellis actually acts tough while skating, Hawk is apparently the strong and silent type. Ellis went on to make a comparison, saying, “You know like I’m… when I skate I’ll slam and I’ll be like f**k you. That didn’t even hurt. I’m just blowing smoke up my own arse to try and seem scary. He is at the ramp doing this trick with his leg not attached and I’m just like..  Like your level of tough now is like.. this would never happen… but if we got angry at each other and he was like f*k you dude I’m knocking you out.. I’ll be seriously worried.”
