“I Can Absolutely Smile”- Mikaela Shiffrin Happy About World Championship Performance, but ‘Not Completely Satisfied’

At last, it was a happy ending for Mikaela Shiffrin and for her rival Petra Vlhova at the FIS Ski World Cup 2022. While the American skier won her fourth overall crystal globe, the Beijing Olympic gold medalist Petra was at the top position in the overall slalom standings.

The kind of performances they have showcased in the last couple of days definitely deserved to be rewarded.

In the Finals of the FIS Ski World Cup, Mikaela Shiffrin completely dominated the first two races. She won the downhill and secured second place in the super-G. However, in the season-ending slalom race yesterday, she lost her consistency and finished eighth.

Mikaela Shiffrin is happy with the results

After the race, the two-time Olympic gold medalist complimented her rival Petra Vlhova on securing the top position. She was also happy with the final slalom results.

Mikaela said, “SL season has come to a close and I can absolutely smile after securing 2nd in the standings. It may not be a completely “satisfied” feeling, but there are some pieces missing in order to truly be in contention for the top spot.”

Mikaela further added, “Petra and her team earned and deserve that spot with the consistency and quickness they showed from start to finish, and I would simply join the masses in saying to them- congratulations for the Globe and the Gold.”

One race to go

Although the results for the FIS Ski World Cup are already out, there’s still one more giant slalom race to go. On Sunday every skier would want to finish the season on a high note, including the world cup winner Mikaela Shiffrin.

Consistency has been a major issue for Mikaela Shiffrin and going into the future, she would have to work on it. As for now, she deserves the celebrations on her tremendous come back after going through a terrible run at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
