After securing her fourth overall crystal globe, today’s season-ending slalom race was a mere formality for the American skier Mikaela Shiffrin. However, she didn’t think of it that way. For her, the remaining two races were about maintaining consistency, which she has failed in achieving once again.
Says #Shiffrin: “I have won so many medals in my career. What I want to be fighting for is to have the consistency on the World Cup season and to fight to be one of the best ski racers in the world.”#Vlhová #ORF #FISAlpine #Méribel pic.twitter.com/JLnl806i1Y

The finals of the FIS Ski World Cup began with a victory downhill for Mikaela, followed by a second-place finish in the super-G event. Apart from winning her fourth world cup title, the spectacular performance in these two races made sure that she has an assailable lead over rival Petra Vlhova in the overall world cup standings.
While Mikaela Shiffrin wins the world cup, Petra Vlhova wins overall slalom trophy
The last two races rewarded Mikaela with her fourth world cup victory. However, in today’s slalom race Mikaela finished eighth. On the other hand, after securing the third position in slalom today, her rival Petra Vlhova wins the overall slalom trophy. The Slovakian skier may have missed the number one position in the overall world cup standings, but in overall slalom, she remains at the top.
Huge congrats to Andreja Slokar on claiming her first slalom victory🎉 Finishing 0.48 seconds behind the leader was @lenaduerr with the Olympic champion, Petra Vlhova finishing in 3rd👏#fisalpine pic.twitter.com/57clN2t53v

Although Mikaela has nothing to lose in this edition of the World Cup, her consistency is still an issue. Undoubtedly, it is quite expected because of the change in discipline with every race. However, going into the future this is something she’ll have to work on a bit.
It has been an amazing week for the American skier. She clung to her world number one position, won her fourth world cup title, and, by doing so, joined the club of compatriot Lindsey Vonn.
