“Drag Me Out of Bed”- Life-Threatening Injuries Scared Skiing Legend Lindsey Vonn During Her Career

As said, difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. All one needs to do is take one step at a time, and if not soon, surely after a period, you’ll reach the top. Even as an athlete, the only thing you should focus on is consistency. That’s what skiing legend Lindsey Vonn choose to do. When injuries made her feel vulnerable, all she did was keep going. One day at a time. Until she eventually made it through.

Lindsey Vonn has led a remarkable career. More than an athlete, she is an inspiration for the world to look up to, though her skiing journey was definitely not an easy trail to walk on. Given that it’s an extreme sport, being a skier comes with a fair share of battling through injuries as well. However, when something you love so much makes you feel vulnerable, it’s certainly heartbreaking.

Lindsey Vonn on battling injuries 

Injuries are sadly an inevitable part of an athlete’s life. However, sometimes they scar you for life. On her experience with injuries, and how she managed to cope with them, Lindsey revealed, “My physical therapist, Lindsay Winninger, would sometimes have to drag me out of bed. I just didn’t want to get up. I thought it was pointless because I kept repeatedly getting injured. After a certain amount of time, it’s hard to see if there’s any light at the end of the tunnel.”

Since Lindsey has always been a fighter, she dealt with her injuries like a true champion. On her recovery, she further added, “I dealt with it by journaling and finding daily goals that helped me stay positive.

Taking one step at a time

Coping through the injuries, Lindsey realized patience is the key. Therefore, instead of focusing on what was not working, she started focusing on what was working for her. The Olympic champion said, “I [focused] on the little victories every day to keep myself positive and motivated.”

Perhaps if only we could see things like Lindsey that our lives are nothing but the sum total of little moments. All you need to do is conquer these brief moments one at a time, and the rest will work out automatically.
