Olympic gold medallist and former snowboarder Shaun White reflected upon ending his 16-year professional career. White began snowboarding as a five-year-old. His story resembled that of bodybuilding icon Arnold Schwarzenegger who spend 50 years in the spotlight. In a recent interview, White candidly spoke about his views on retirement and even drew a parallel between the experiences of other sportsmen.

Shaun White relates to cross-sports personality

White’s life just became a lot more eventful post-retirement. Now that a documentary is coming out portraying his journey, the snowboarder is being vulnerable about his feelings. In an interview with the Guardian, he said, “Retirement is a pretty ugly word.”

The 3x Olympic gold medalist also related to another sporting star’s documentary that came out in May 2023. He continued saying, “This next chapter just feels like something new. It’s on to the next. I recently watched the Arnold Schwarzenegger documentary [Arnold], and he was like, ‘I reached the top, and now I’m bored. What’s next?’ Some of that kind of hit home.”  While sitting at his Los Angeles home, he reflected on the feeling of reaching milestones he had set for himself. White and Schwarzenegger continued to make headlines even after leaving the athletic spotlight.

Despite suffering several injuries the San Diego native won 18 X Games medals, and held the title of best snowboarder of all time. White’s Olympic triumphs and his relationship with Nina Dobrev from “Vampire Diaries” are hard to forget while thinking of him.
