The prolific snowboarder and skateboarder from California, US, Shaun White is one of the names when discussing adventure. Besides his thrilling experience and Olympic medals, White is widely known for his creation of ‘Whitespace’. Whitespace produces high-standard snowboarding gear and boards that only an Olympian could design. Now, White also creates some high-standard quality apparel including tee and hoodies. His brand Whitespace also collaborated with one of the most lavish brands on the planet ‘ Louis Vuitton’. Recently in an interview with Business Beyond The Game, White opened up about how he started his collaboration and his excitement about the same.

Shaun White’s partnership with classic vintage Louis Vuitton

During the creation of Whitespace, Shaun White was looking for something extraordinary to build up his brand. For guidance and support, he reached out to his dear friend Virgil Abloh, one of the most influential fashion designers and the artistic director of Louis Vuitton. In the interview with Business Beyond, The Games Youtube video White reveals that he wanted to blend his athletics with the brand’s mold and style. And to give it the right steer where the brand is going and have an idea to create his snowboarding trunk, White called Virgil.

Shaun White revealed his joy working with Virgil saying, “I was so honored to receive feedback from such a visionary and someone who I admire and respect so much. During the call, I told Virgil, ‘It’s always wanted to make a Louis Vuitton snowboard trunk,’ to which he replied, ‘No effin way!!! We have to make this happen.”

White’s humble start of the brand turned out to be collaborating with one of the most expensive brands in the world. and now, his snowboard trunk is a mixed culture of snowboarding and art. White shared a heartfelt story about meeting with the artistic director and how everything stood up on his side just as he always wanted.

The emotional luggage story of Whitespace

Shaun White met Virgil Abloh during his training in Mammoth Mountain and since both shared a passion for snowboarding and design, the two quickly got along. When White called Virgil to take guidance for his Whitespace luggage, Virgil responded supportively. Virgil was inspired by the white striped design and he suggested using it on the black leather monogram of LV. Shaun said, Virgil always had an exciting energy during the creation of the brand that motivated White.

After hearing about Virgil’s passing, Shaun was devastated, and he dedicated this creation to Virgil. “A huge thank you to everyone on the Louis Vuitton team for making my dream come true. But most of all, Thank you, Virgil. Rest in Power, my friend. #VirgilWasHere.” It was despairing that Virgil Abloh never got to see the finished product of the LV and Whitespace collab after all his massive efforts and inputs.
