Life is unpredictable. One example of it is Shaun White’s life story. When Cathy White, the proud mother of three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, saw his son getting acquainted with snowboarding, she was absolutely against the idea. However, little did she know that her son could do such incredible things.

What started as a fun activity for Shaun White, with time, transformed him into a legend of the sport. At the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, as he bid farewell to the sport he has dominated for over 20 years, everyone was in tears, including himself. Though, he has given countless moments to snowboarding and fans to cherish for a lifetime.

Shaun White’s mom was against his snowboarding passion

According to a report, Cathy was not fond of Shaun doing snowboarding. She said, “I don’t know where it came from because I don’t like him snowboarding.” Instead of snowboarding, her mother wanted him to ski, given that he was not that good at it. Furthermore, she told Shaun, “to slow down by telling him he could only board backward, or switch, a skill that would help further his career.”

But Shaun didn’t listen to his mother’s advice on sports, went ahead with his gut feeling, and followed his passion for the sport. However, later on, Cathy herself admitted that “We all ride together and take the same lines. Snowboarding together is such a great bonding experience for us.”

Shaun White credits his family for everything he has accomplished in his career

Whatever greatness Shaun White has achieved, he gives credit for that to his family. It’s because of them that he was able to transform his dream of becoming one of the greatest snowboarders ever into reality. “When my career in snowboarding started out, it was my entire family driving around in a van, staying at the mountains and trying to make it happen,” said the three-time Olympic champion Shaun.

Undoubtedly, family is the most important thing in life, and it wasn’t any different for the snowboarding legend.
