The film industry is rarely known for a smooth filming process. The post-film and premiere-day interviews of every actor talk about a bumpy ride. However, things sometimes escalate and some crew members end up leaving production. In the worst cases, these crew members are none other than the film’s very actors.

In fact, popular actors like Ryan Gosling (Lovely Bones), Paul Walker (Fast and Furious), and Natalie Portman (Romeo + Juliet) have also bitten this bitter bullet. Along similar lines, French-British acting phenomenon, Charlotte Gainsbourg also had to lose a role mid-production back in 2007. A snowboarding accident stole a grand opportunity for Gainsbourg, despite being the numero uno choice of director Claude Berri.

The $95 million director commanded one of the biggest authorities in the film industry. Berri was planning to adapt a book and make a film, ‘Tomorrow, That’s All,’ and had already imagined Gainsbourg as his choice.

The news reached the ears of the cute and talented Audrey Tautou. The French actress sports a short haircut that resembles the late, great, and iconic, Audrey Hepburn. Even Tautou knew that Berri would choose Gainsbourg, as even she thought of her as the perfect fit for the role. Despite this, she asked her agent to contact Berri in case he needed a replacement. Little did she know that the arrow she shot in the dark would actually land, although, at a great cost.

Exit Charlotte Gainsbourg, Enter Audrey Tautou

Audrey Tautou didn’t have much hope of gaining the role she deeply desired. While she had the impeccable style and acting skills matching Audrey Hepburn, Gainsbourg was one step ahead of her. In fact, Berri had already made a successful film with Gainsbourg named ‘My Wife is an Actress’ in 2001. While Berri had already started filming with Gainsbourg even before completing the scripting, her snowboarding accident sent everything down the drain.

This snowboarding travesty injured Gainsbourg and she had to make an unfortunate exit from the film, also called Hunting and Gathering. However, Audrey Tautou was right there to make use of the freshly created vacancy. The film went on to receive a lot of love, as Tautou played the role of the protagonist Camile. The French movie, ‘Ensemble, c’est,’ or Hunting and Gathering, went on to receive great praise and critical acclaim. It is still a classical watch, despite being over 16 years old.
