People know Shaun White for his amazing jumps and tricks on top of a snowboard. The American snowboarding pride has appeared in five Winter Olympics and has won three gold medals for his nation. However, White has not limited his expertise to just one sport. 

Shaun White also possesses a flair for the sister sport of snowboarding. He also carries a tremendous amount of skill on top of the skateboard. However, his skill was once tested on live TV with a very dangerous jump. A recently uploaded viral social media post highlighted this jump when he showed up for a talk show.

Shaun White has represented America in the Winter Olympics since he was 19. In fact, he is single-handedly responsible for making the cool sport more exposed to the spotlight. While White gives the impression of a calm person, he never says no to any shenanigans.

Recently, White appeared on the Live Mark and Kelly show. The show’s hosts welcomed the Olympian, and one of the co-hosts, Kelly Ripa, instantly plunged down memory lane. Ripa recalled when she met with White as another co-host, and he performed a literal ‘jump’ scare.

Mark Consuelos, the co-host of the show and Ripa’s husband, brought up the subject of White’s jump over Ripa. White felt immediately self-conscious and said, “Talk about pressure!” White said he was asked to display his flamboyant skills on the board by jumping over Kelly Ripa. 

White promptly agreed to the task, and Ripa lay down on the floor. White was asked to jump over the belly of Ripa. Right when he was about to fire off, one of the staff members told White that Ripa was pregnant. Shaun White was instantly hit by an avalanche, but he composed himself and said, “Okay. Alright. I can do this.” Despite the high stakes of the jump, White pulled himself together and executed it perfectly. Later, Kelly Ripa recalled meeting White once again seven years after the jump in 2010 with her son.

The unexpected meeting seven years later

Kelly Ripa later spoke about meeting Shaun White in a hotel in California seven years after the dangerously scary jump. However, this time, she was with the child, who was just a fetus, in 2003. Ripa told her son, Joaquin, “he jumped over you when you were living in my belly.” Ripa asked White if she remembered her son, and he said yes, and remarked how big he is now.

White was also asked whether he preferred hosting a show over snowboarding. White said he always finds himself more comfortable on a board than sitting on a chair. He said that he instantly gets into the zone when his goggles come down, but hosting just doesn’t work that well for him. The risky jump could have easily gone wrong. However, looking back at it, both Ripa and White reminisce the moment with cheerfulness.
