Winter Olympic Legend, Shaun White Opens Up on Absurd TV Shows Deals He Turned Down to Save His Image

Shaun White is a legendary snowboarder. In five Olympic appearances, the snowboarder has won three gold medals in the men’s halfpipe snowboarding. Shaun holds the record for the most number of Olympic medals to be won by a snowboarder. Along with the Olympics, he participated in the X games, where he won the most number of gold medals to be ever won in that championship.

Shaun stunned the world with his performances at the X Games, where he performed unbelievable aerial acts. As a result of so much popularity, he is often in the spotlight. Fans are always curious to know about his life.

Shaun White sets a template for his career 

Recently, Shaun White was a guest on the show ‘Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard’. The audience well received the podcast and was loved by his fans. Shaun answered questions ranging from his childhood to his snowboarding career. He even updated his fans with his post-retirement life and his brand ‘white-space’. Shaun revealed that he gained a lot of popularity when he won the gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympic games. “When I won, not only was it the most viewed thing compared to American Idol and Super Bowl’ but I was recognizable. I was like the only one with long red hair”, he said.

After winning the medal in Italy, Shaun received a lot of offers from talk shows. He believes he was famous because of his vibe and ability to speak on tv. With such invitations, he was expected to perform stunts or some acrobatic moves in the show during his entry. “Can he come slide in on the stage and rip his beanie off and sits on a chair?” he said, describing the expectations of the makers of the talk show. Shaun revealed that he wanted to go to the show, but wanted his debut appearance to be a decent one.

Opening up on a question about absurd tv show deals, he turned down, the Winter Olympic legend said,” Wow, I got to set the template for the rest of my career right now. So I had to say no to a bunch of shows”. He revealed that it was a tough decision for him to make.

Shaun retired from snowboarding after finishing fourth in the 2022 Winter Olympics. In the podcast, Shaun revealed what he was doing after retiring from the game. Just before the Olympics, Shaun had launched his own brand ‘White-Space’, which had its name derived from his last name. He narrated how he has been working on the brand after his retirement and taking inspiration from the star fashion designer ‘Virgil Abloh’.

He shed some light on the collaboration that his brand did with Louis Vuitton before the Winter Olympics. The collaborative effort was very successful, but Virgil Abloh could not see the final product as he passed away when the project’s work was still underway. He further described how he was using all his expertise on the board and the jacket.
