Having endured possibly one of the worst campaigns last year, it looks like the San Diego Wave has something big in store for the 2025 NWSL season. Talk about a wake-up call, as the California-based club continues to make addition after addition to its roster. Less than a couple of days after bringing in goalie DiDi Haracic, their latest move involves another former Angel City member, none other than Becki Tweed.

Well, technically, she isn’t a direct signing for the team. That’s because the 32-year-old has joined the Waves as an assistant coach to their recently hired manager Jonas Eidevall according to a report by The Equaliser. This would see the former Arsenal manager get first-hand assistance from Tweed, who knows the NWSL in and out as a former player, assistant, and even an interim coach.

Notably, after having enjoyed a stellar career in both England and the USA as a player, Tweed began her managerial stint working as an assistant manager for the NCAA D1 side Monmouth Hawks. It was from 2020 to 2023, she joined NJ/NY Gotham FC, before finally arriving at Angel City. However, as things had started going south for the Los Angeles-based club, they decided to make Tweed as an interim boss.

With her leadership, she guided the team to their first-ever playoffs, courtesy of an impressive 11-game unbeaten streak. However, ACFC later decided to part ways with Becki, as the team eventually failed in their quest, only to make a 12th-place finish with just 24 points. Fortunately, it was just a matter of time she reportedly seems to have found another employment at NWSL with San Diego Waves.

Tweed will potentially be working closely with Jonas Eidevall and other coaching staff in order to help the team get the best results. The former English player will bring her crucial knowledge of the game to the table and make the necessary contribution. Additionally, excitement also remains for Becky and Eidevall to work with the team, especially with the new signings as the Waves made yet another acquisition.

The San Diego Wave appears to be on a mission for redemption. The California side is keen to reclaim their dominance in the NWSL, and making necessary additions to the team might just be their cheat code. Earlier this week, the club signed goalkeeper DiDi Haracic as a free agent from Angel City in order to create competition within their current goalkeeper lineup, which includes Kailen Sheridan and Hillary Beall.

Of course, the transfer fiesta doesn’t stop there for the Waves. In addition to securing 19-year-old Nigerian striker Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, the team also brought in midfielder Gia Corley from TSG Hoffenheim Frauen and former ZHFK Lokomotiv Moskva midfielder Favour Emmanuel, another Nigerian talent.

The club’s eye for young talent has been equally sharp. After her NCAA victory with the University of North Carolina, 17-year-old defender Trinity Armstrong caught their attention. Other notable signings include UCLA defender Quincy McMahon and 18-year-old Colombian defender Sintia Cabezas, who will remain on loan with her parent club before joining the Waves in 2026.

Clearly, the message is clear from the San Diego Wave as they look to make a statement in the 2025 NWSL season. Let’s see how all these additions play a role in the same.
