Urging his fans, Slater humbly requested, “Let’s help this Malibu surfer out with a little support.” Erik Nielsen posted a sincere letter about his predicament on his GoFundMe website.

Nielsen stated that he never intended to be in this unforeseen situation and voiced his amazement and dismay. Up until he received a colon cancer diagnosis, Erik, a dedicated single parent, thought he had succeeded in giving his daughter a caring home. Erik appealed “Undergoing one surgery already, it appears that I may be unable to work for a period of eight months to a year. Nevertheless, I am determined to fight and emerge victorious. It is with a sense of embarrassment that I now find myself asking for help. Any contribution, no matter how small, along with your prayers, would mean the world to me.”

Slater, having experienced the devastating loss of his father to cancer, possesses a deep personal understanding of the illness, which fuels his relentless efforts to support and assist those battling this formidable disease.
