“Bitten in Both Hands”: Surfer Grateful to Have Survived After Triple Shark Attacks in a Single Day Caused Panic in Florida Beach Once

Ranked as the deadliest beach in America, New Smyrna beach once witnessed a terrible incident on September 18th, 2016. A surfing enthusiast named Chuck Luciano faced a deadly shark attack. Shockingly, two other shark attacks took place on the same day where Chuck’s encounter ensued. After the attack, Chuck shared a Facebook post, elaborating on the aftermath of the attack. A newsfeed named LiveOutdoors reported the gory state of affairs.

The first shark attack of the day happened at 10:45 am wherein a 43-year-old man was bitten. After this, 36-year-old surfer Chuck Luciano was reported to suffer grievous injuries from the shark attack. The day only worsened as a 16-year-old boy was attacked by a shark.

Later, Luciano shared a Facebook post on 19th September 2016, describing the treatment he had to undergo to get healed from the horrific shark attack.

A dangerous attack and its painful aftermath

Surfing in the waters of New Smyrna Beach, Luciano noticed a shark coming towards him. Later, the shark bit his hand and Luciano punched it with his right hand. Due to this, the shark temporarily retreated.  Alarmed by this attack, Luciano tried to paddle at the shore with his other hand which wasn’t injured. However, the shark wasn’t satisfied yet.

The shark came back for a second duel round. Circling around him, the shark bit his hands again. Despite being injured, Luciano managed to paddle to the shore and was later given treatment on the beach before being admitted to the Halifax Memorial Hospital. Revealing that it was a bull shark that had attacked him, he took to Facebook to share a health update with his followers.

In this Facebook post, he informed, “As some of you have heard, today I was bitten in both hands by sharks.” Continuing, “Im very grateful that I survived and will get to recover”, indicating that many others were not as fortunate. Luciano later did a reconstructive surgery to treat his injured hand.

This is not the only surfing attack that shocked netizens. Surfing fans were alarmed by another shark attack on a surfer at Pepper Park beach in Florida.

A shark’s terrible rampage on Matthew Picarelli’s foot

A shark attacked Matthew Picarrelli on Sunday, 12th March 2023 at around 11:40 pm when he was bodysurfing. Although he tried, he couldn’t overpower it and the shark bit him on his foot, while trying to squeeze his foot in the moments that followed. However, thankfully, the shark did not attempt to drag Picarelli underwater. As the shark swam away into the darkness of the ocean waters, his friend came to his aid and took him to the hospital.

Afterwards, Picarelli gave a statement to WPTV of his massive injuries, and said, “Fifty stitches, broken tendon, chipped the bone.”
