The team of 100 Foot Wave is back with banger news for the fans of the series, that first came out in July 2021 and was a massive success. For the unversed, 100 Foot Wave is a docu-series that was divided into six parts. It focused on the quest of big wave surfer Garrett McNamara. Featuring the surfing life in Nazare, Portugal, the docuseries shed light on the dangers, records, and revolution of the surfing environment of the place in a decade.

The cinematography and reception of the series earned it nominations in various reputed award shows. But, despite the success, something was missing. The story was incomplete as there were still things left to be told. Luckily for the fans, the wait won’t be long. Does that mean 100 Foot Wave is getting another season?

Season 2 of 100 Foot Wave is coming soon

On 27th March 2023, HBO released the official trailer for the second season of their docuseries 100 Foot Wave. The story will continue from where it was left off in the previous season with McNamara and his peers testing the boundaries of their bodies and mind. Additionally, fans will have to wait for less than a month to get their hands on the first episode of the season.

The 2nd season will premiere on 16th April 2023. The first episode will air at 8 pm ET/PT on linear HBO. It’ll also be available for streaming on HBO Max. The subsequent episodes will air at the same time every Sunday for the next five weeks. The series will be a mix of vérité scenes, special interviews, and undisclosed archives.

The first season won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfictional Program. It also received a nomination for Outstanding Documentary or Non-fictional series. With the success of the first season, a lot has been anticipated from the second one. So what new could the makers add to the already flawless series while keeping up with its original reputation?

Difference between the two seasons of the docuseries

While the enormous waves, water hunt, thrill, and dangers remain the same, the new season will feature how the place has evolved. In the first season, the deserted town, housed mostly the surfers and their teams. The new trailer shows, that it is no longer that desolate. Instead, it has been swarmed by tourists and new surfing enthusiasts.

In the trailer, it could be heard in the background that the cliff which was once used by operators only, now had more than 30,000 people in the audience. As the new season will cover what happened after 2021, it’ll also cover the pandemic and how it affected the Surfing life in Nazare.
