This is where the monstrous tube-like waves of Pipeline render the beach as one of the most perilous and dynamically challenging surf spots on the planet. However, it is noteworthy that in September 2023, news emerged about Kelly Slater undergoing surgery.

This revelation came through an Instagram post that initially focused on the Women’s WSL Finals. The post, however, took an unexpected turn, shedding light on Slater’s challenges after a hip surgery. A poignant snapshot depicted his immobilized leg. Having faced various significant injuries in the past, including the memorable incident where he folded his foot in half, Slater recognized the arduous journey ahead. He acknowledged the challenges in rehabilitating his hip. However, when discussing his surgery, Slater disclosed the extensive measures taken.

These procedures included labrum reconstruction, removal of scar tissue and bone spurs on the femoral head, socket joint shaving, and extraction of bone fragments and foreign objects from the joint.
