Fans are well aware of Kolohe Andino’s prowess on water. However, they recently witnessed a deeply personal side of the surfing icon as he opened up on his new-found role as a father. Andino detailed in a recent interview, the incredible experience of welcoming his one-year-old daughter to the family and how it reshaped his life’s purpose.

Kolohe Andino started surfing at a very young age and quickly rose through the ranks. He holds the record of winning the maximum number of National Scholastic Surfing Association titles by any male competitor.

Kolohe Andino shares his views on fatherhood

Andino became a father some time back and his perspective on life changed completely after that. In a recent interview, he shared his views on how fatherhood changed his priorities completely. As it turns out, the 28-year-old has relegated his evergreen love for surfing to the second position following the birth of his daughter.

Describing the new changes in his life, Andino said, “You just feel like you have a bigger purpose in life.”

It puts a lot in perspective. Whereas before, competing, winning events, and winning heats was number one, and now it’s just the health and safety of my wife and my daughter,” he added.

Andino also described the beautiful moments leading up to his daughter’s birth and how it affected him personally. The moving event instilled within him a deep respect for women and mothers, in particular. Talking about his priorities, Andino made it clear that he wants to spend a maximum amount of time with the two of them. His new role as a father had simplified his purpose and readjusted his worldview.

Andino is not done yet

Meanwhile, Kolohe Andino underlined the fact that his new appreciation for family life will not be the epilogue of his career. Addressing his passion for surfing, he said, “The fire’s definitely still there. I feel like I’m still doing my best and continuing to improve.”
