While the sport of surfing calls for constant attention for its springing energy, it also brings with it its own vulnerability. Failing to maintain safety measures can cost in life-threatening injuries. However, surfers are always on the verge of uncertainties while facing oceanic waves. Big waves can make or break their lives. Likewise, an American surfer ended up internally injured due to a terrible accident from his fin.

Although he was not very sure about the cause of his concussion, Sterling Spencer, the surfer, decided to see a doctor. It’s then. that he came to know about the whole situation underneath. Although his friends initially thought it to be a stunt, they later realized the depth of his injuries.

Sterling Spencer found out an unusual reason behind his injury

Recently, a channel name Stab: We Like To Surf, made a documentary on his life and shared its glimpse on YouTube. In November 2019, while surfing and facing big waves, Spencer felt a terrible pain in his head due to a hit from his fin, which ultimately led to a severe concussion. Then within just one month, things got out of hand and his body started to immobilize. Within the next couple of months, his mental strength began to deteriorate. He went to see different local doctors, who found out the reason to be Depression and prescribed Xanax.

Although his close friends couldn’t anticipate this to be the cause, they thought it was a “sterling thing”, attributed to his lively nature. One of his friends said, “Before his brain injury, I don’t think I ever heard him say anything serious…so all of a sudden he’s talking about a brain injury he’s having issues and he can’t walk he’s falling down all the time, you wonder if he’s joking.”

Spencer himself felt devastated to know the reason, “So they took me to a doctor and the doctor tested me. And then he was like, ‘he’s depressed’. I’m like depression can make you crippled?” The injury was becoming severe, and his local doctors advised him to go to Dr. Shark for finding a way out of this.

Is there any way out for this surfing star?

In October 2020, Dr. Shark found out that Spencer had a traumatic brain injury, and was suffering from post-concussion syndrome. Finding it to be a rare case, Dr. Shark sent him to Dr. Doug Brown in Alabama, where Spencer finally found a resort. As the surfer expressed, “Dr. Doug was like he’s the biggest thing in my life during that, because no one understood me. He was the first person to really understand what I’m going through.”

Being the neuro chiropractor, Br. Doug comprehended the severity of the situation and after a lot of effort, Sterling was able to stand up properly. Moreover, he had to do some “brain exercises” to be back to normal life, the doctor also prescribed him to eat healthily and take proper sleep.
