A homeless golden retriever roaming on the streets of eastern Los Angeles found a good samaritan that completely changed his life, teaching him to surf. Chris De Aboitiz, who took charge of the retriever from foster care, trained him to surf and found him a home. A YouTube video shared by the National Desk in 2016 gave a glimpse of the dog’s moving surfing story.

The video showed how the dog learned how to surf, later participating in a dog surfing competition. Uniting with a family who would take care of him forever after the competition, the dog started a new chapter of his life. Here is a glimpse of Hobie’s amazing journey from not having a home to becoming a surfing champion.

Hobie’s heart-touching surfing story

Tandem surfing champion Aboitiz who took the responsibility for Hobie related, “He’s never stepped in water before.” Narrating how Hobie had been with him for three weeks, Aboitiz narrated how he took Hobie to the beach one day, to see the water. Aboitiz then explained how he had trained Hobie for the dog surfing competition. “When he’s sitting on the paddleboard, he’s not allowed to move, so he’s getting structure.” Talking about how in the three weeks he had driven to Oregon with Hobie, Aboitz showed fans how he was teaching him to surf amidst the river rapids.

The video also showed how Hobie had a difficult time balancing on the surfboard initially, repeatedly falling in the water but not giving up. Later, the determined golden retriever, finally managed to balance himself on the board, showing that he was ready for the upcoming Surf City Surf Dog competition.

Post this, participating in the dog surfing competition with Aboitiz by his side, Hobie was cheered by his new guardians, the MacKenzies who stood at the shore. Hobie not only won second place in the competition, but was united with his caretakers, the Mackenzies as well. Hobie wasn’t the only dog to catch the surfing community’s eye with his surfing skills. Another dog amazed fans with his astounding surfing skills with the video receiving more than 1 million views.

A miniature bull terrier creates a storm on the internet with his surfing skills

Shared on the Facebook handle MeetDaanAnimals, the caption of this video reads,

“Meet the world’s best surfing miniature bull terrier!” The video portrays how a person throws a surfboard in the water which is immediately pursued by the dog named Rufus. Jumping on the board, Rufus surfed faster in the water.

Later, the video depicts how the board is thrown repeatedly in different directions and angles, but despite this, every time, Rufus is able to jump confidently on the board and balance himself. During a brief moment, Rufus even made a turn while surfing on the board. Impressed fans couldn’t resist reacting to the video where many fans called Rufus awesome for his surfing skills.
