American Volleyball player Gabrielle Reece visited the set of Joe Rogan Experience for an engaging discussion. Their topic of discussion inevitably veered toward surfing and Reece mentioned the various coastal regions she and her husband have lived in. One such wave that Reece’s husband Laird Hamilton fell in love with was located on an island in Central Pacific.

In the podcast, Reece mentioned to Rogan that she and her husband once lived on the island of Maui for 13 years. She humorously cited her husband’s unconditional love for big waves behind that decision. Let’s find out in detail.

In the podcast episode from April 2019, Gabrielle Reece and Joe Rogan were talking about the various islands in and around Hawaii. They talked about the population there, the beaches, and what conditions prevailed at various points in time. Rogan mentions at this point that Maui is quite like Beverly Hills, LA.

Reece responded, “I lived there for 13 years with Laird. There was a wave there that Laird was having a love affair with, for many years. So we lived there.” Rogan burst out in laughter at her witty remark. She continued, “You know so he could be close to his girlfriend.” Reece was funnily drawing a parallel between Hamilton’s love for a big wave to any man’s love for his girlfriend.

“Hit My Closet”: Laird Hamilton Can’t Keep Calm After Losing a Prized Possession to His Wife Gabrielle Reece

Rogan said, “So strange,” still laughing at the prospect. Reece further doubled down on her remark and said, “No, every boy needs their girlfriend”. “Every boy needs a wave”, Rogan responded. The back-and-forth conversation only established Hamilton’s love for surfing beyond anything else.

Hamilton’s devotion to family is only matched by his love for the open waters

Reece then describes Laird Hamilton’s obsession with the waves i.e. surfing, in a more serious manner. According to her, Hamilton would often go out to surf for a long period stretching up to 5 hours at times. However, whenever he returned home he would inevitably be happy to see his wife and daughters. But he would soon start to miss the waves again.

Reece herself is a sports announcer, fashion model, and actress besides a Volleyball player. She and Hamilton are a strong sporting couple who spend their time living in Kauai, Hawaii, and Malibu, California with their daughters.
