Kelly Slater has had one of the most flamboyant careers of all time. The world has seen him grow from a talented surfer to an absolute legend of the game. He has achieved anything and everything one can aspire to. With a net worth of over 22 million dollars, Kelly’s future shines bright. But to achieve global limelight, one has to get through dark times as well. 

We must have been through tough times in our lives. For those of you who haven’t, have patience. Dark times are very important in our lives as they make us better human beings. Even the American star surfer, Kelly Slater, had to grow through some of the toughest times.

Strange phase for Kelly Slater 

Kelly appeared in an interview with Graham Bensinger in 2019. The interview was very candid and included various aspects of Kelly’s life. While talking about the issues of growing up, Kelly described a time when his life became very complicated.

Kelly faced some sudden changes in his life, which were very tough to handle. In 2019, the legend lost four of his really good friends within a month. “Two months ago I lost 4 friends in 4 weeks,” he said in a heavy voice.

Kelly feels that the demise of someone close to you puts you in introspection. “When people pass away, you look back and you review their lives and your lives, ” he said. He further added that such introspection sometimes helps in realizing important things in life.

Slater thinks that as people grow, their priorities get changed with experience. He said, “when you are young you want to go around the world and find what’s your thing. But as you get a little passed on and achieve those things, you start to worry more about being happy“.

Kelly has his priorities set in his mind. Graham asked him about what was important to him. Kelly replied, “I think just trying to be clear-headed, treat people good, and be happy“. Both ended up smiling at this answer.
