Kanoa Igarashi’s dominance at The US Open surfing title continues. On August 3, the Japanese-American surfer rode the swell of the Huntington Beach Pier, covering the north and south sides of the pier. On heat 8 of the round of 32 events, the surfer, with his staunch moves, sealed his win with a score of 13.43 and secured his name in the bracket event. The surfer further revealed that his mission was to finish the swells from either side, north or south. Igarashi, who feels liberated while chasing the swells, revealed that it was his first time conquering the swells on both ends. While talking about the support from the crowd, Igarashi added, “I heard the crowd on the pier screaming right above me, so it was actually a really cool feeling.”

Further, after not being able to catch any waves, in the last few heats, Igarashi was pleased by the swells provided by the Huntington Pier. The surfer, who’s stoked to see all the other competitors also riding waves, is trying to make the best out of the situation and ended the interview by stating, “I guess for my heat, I can make do with what we have.” Igarashi will now be competing in the Bracket stage of the competition. In this event, starting on August 4, only two surfers will compete at a time.

Bracket event for U.S. open surfing 2023

On August 4, 16 sets of surfers will compete in the final men’s heat at the bracket event. Igarashi will be competing against David Silva, known for his goofy stance. Apart from these two, many other surfers, including Australian surfer Morgan Cibilic, who is surfing against Reef Heazelwood, California surfer Cole Houshmand are competing against Long Beach surfer Nola Rapoza competing in this 16-person set.

Rapoza, who’s also excited about surfing on Huntington Beach, revealed that the pier mentally gives him an advantage. The Long Island surfer who’s going to trust his instincts thinks only the first three events of the contest are the hard part and considers the bracket stage to be an easy and fun event.
