Following his untimely demise, eulogies and tributes started to pour in for the young surfer. The 11x World surf league champion Kelly Slater also paid his earnest condolences to Proebstel and penned an encomium for the surfer.

Kelly Slater mourns young surfer and emphasizes community remembrance

Renowned surfer Kelly Slater took to Instagram to share his eulogy for the 22-year-old Lucas Proebstel. Expressing his grief, the 51-year-old wrote, “RIP to this young man I don’t believe I ever got a chance to meet.” Slater revealed that Lucas held a significant role in his family as a solid presence, as well as being a close friend and mentor to others.

Remembering the young surfing prodigy, the 11x WSL champion then penned, “It would mean a lot for Lucas’ family to have him remembered by the surfing community.? He concluded his heartfelt message by adding, “Condolences to his family and friends, and may he continue to surf in peace.” Slater then bid his final goodbye to Proebstel by writing “A Hui Hou, Lucas,”, a Hawaiian phrase which means, ‘until we meet again’.
