On 21 January 2023, Nathan Florence posted a video titled “WHO I THINK WILL WIN THE EDDIE AND WHY” on his YouTube channel. Just as the name suggests, Florence and the others shared their opinion on the topic. This sparked a debate in the comment section where fans joined in to share their opinions too. Since most of the names picked by the boys were of the new surfers, it didn’t sit well with some fans of the veteran surfers.

One such fan commented, “Surprised very few are mentioning Kelly, guy just blew all the young surfers outa the water at the backdoor shootout. On the other hand mother nature will decide the winner at the end of the day”
