She recalled, “Right from the start, this day just had a super weird vibe.” The gloomy weather and the absence of other surfers struck her as unusual. However, being a regular in the water, she didn’t find it completely abnormal. As she paddled out, approximately 30 minutes later, she spotted something thrashing about 20 feet beyond the waves.
