Despite a gruesome shark attack, the surfer willing to hit the water

On July 3, around 5.20 p.m., a 15-year-old boy named Peter Branculli was surfing on the huge waves of Fire Island when, out of the blue, a shark attacked the surfer. While hitting the water, the predatory fish swirling in the waves caught the teenager’s left foot and tried to take him down.

Fortunately, Peter Branculli was saved, as the man-eater only nipped his heel and toe fingers. The teenager was alarmed by the shark attack and quickly tried to get to a safe place. In an interview with the New York Post, he stated, “My first reaction to when the shark grabbed my foot was to immediately get out water… and get help.” However, the surfer is not letting this attack deprive him of enjoying what he loves. The teenage boy plans to surf again once his foot is healed. In an interview with News 12, the boy stated, “I’m very excited to go back and start shredding again,” but this time the surfer has decided to be more cautious while surfing in the water.”

Branculli, who is currently using a knee scooter to move around, was also thankful for the Samaritans present at Fire Island Beach. As they provided medical aid until the county officers reached the attack scene. Overall, Long Island beaches are becoming famous for not-so-good reasons. The beach has reported twelve shark attacks in two years. This week, the attacks have reached a concerning number.
