As a philanthropist, Kelly Slater has always contributed to matters of the sea. Besides being a surfer, Slater is also an active environmentalist. The 11x world champ advocates for matters ranging from pollution in aquatic ecosystems, to water conservation. Recently, an Instagram page posted a video of a whale that was washed away to the shore in Manasquan. Slater reposted this video and shared his concerns about the same.

However, Slater has shared his unease about the death of whales due to water pollution before. Now he has posted an update about the saddening death of the 9th whale in the past few months in the same place.

Kelly Slater stood up against the degradation of marine life

Previously, people saw a Humpback whale come floating to the shore. This caused a disturbing impact on the surf league champion. Evidently, he took to his Instagram to take a stand for the unusual deaths. “9th whale in the past few months washed up in manasquan a day or two ago. Something super fishy going on up there and I think @noaa knows what’s happening but hasn’t said anything publicly”. Hearing about the consecutive death of the whales, Slater couldn’t keep his calm and voiced his concern about the debasement of the creatures.

He feels that the authorities need to keep a close eye on what’s causing this. There’s a possibility that the drilling into the ocean floor, for the installation of wind turbines off the coast, may be a contributing factor. The drilling can even mess up the whales’ echolocation to communicate and find food. As a true philanthropist and ocean lover, Slater thinks it is his responsibility to raise his voice for this crisis.

Although this is not the first time that the Hawaiian surfer has stood for marine debasement. Before this, he voiced some other serious issues too. As a professional surfer, he possesses an endearing relationship with the sea. Being a member of the Ocean Advocacy Advisory Board, Slater remains active and tirelessly participates in various campaigns that await public attention. Moreover, with his ‘The Kelly Slater Foundation’, he is on his way to raising a fund to rescue and conserve marine creatures.
