Notably, the greatest surfer of all time, Kelly Slater, is known to people across the planet. With a record 11 world titles, he has had a phenomenal career. Slater was just 20 years old when he won his first world title. This meant that he became the youngest world champion of all time. Incidentally, he is also the oldest surfer to perform a ten-point ride in a World Surf League competition.

The champion surfer is in the news once again for a whole new and exciting reason – a new surfing resort!

Kelly Slater Surfing Resort

The new luxury resort is going to be similar to Slater’s other resort in California. It will feature a ‘wave-making’ machine that will be used for professional competitions and casual surfing. With an eye for younger adventurers, the aim is to provide a unique experience to surfers rather than golfers. With over 100 golf courses in the area, the sport makes up most of the market.

Located near the Coral mountains, the resort boasts a capacity of 150 rooms, and 600 private residences ranging from $1million to $5million. All of it covers 400acres of land around the La Quinta area. The Kelly Slater Wave co. will utilize the creation of the largest open-barrel, man-made waves to create the 18million gallon surfing haven.

There are also plans to integrate sporting activities, such as rock climbing, skateboarding, and some extreme sports. Speaking about the new project, Kelly seemed confident about the venture.

“I’m personally excited to create a new wave that will be a stand-alone design that nowhere else in the world has,” said Kelly. He also hopes that this design can become the blueprint for new developments around surf parks in the future.

Slater and the Pipeline

The Pipeline, or ‘The Pipe’, is one of Slater’s favorite spots in surfing. He has won many events held at the pipe. Most recently, he participated in the Billabong Pro Pipeline in February 2022. However, Kelly’s first experience at the Pipe was an absolute nightmare.

As Kelly once recalled, he said a wave had picked him up and slammed him on his back on the reef. Slater felt like he was never going to come up and will be held there forever.
