While Surfing World Reminisces Over Gisele Bündchen’s Fling With Kelly Slater, 11X Champ Recalls Another Iconic Moment From Over a Decade Ago

The world’s most renowned surfer needs no introduction to his sport. Kelly Slater is an 11-time World Surf League champion. He is also the only truly great surfer of all time. Slater’s accomplishments do not stop there. Despite his age of 50, Slater continues to dominate the sport of surfing.

Back in 2010, the legendary surfer who had just earned his 10th WSL title didn’t expect something like this to happen. He was honored at the Kelly Slater Sculpture Project ceremony in Florida. This makes Slater not only a great surfer but also a great athlete of all time. The surfing world legend is rehashing old romances with Gisele Bündchen, but Kelly wouldn’t have any of it. Happily moved on, he is laser-focused on building his legacy, as shown by his recent Instagram story.

The Kelly Slater Day

While the ceremony for the Kelly Slater Sculpture Project was going on, November 17th, 2010 was announced as Kelly Slater Day. Another significant achievement was added to the decorated career of the legendary surfer. Slater shared this moment through his Instagram story.

It was indeed a great moment for the surfer to cherish. Back then, just 11 days ago, on November 6, 2010, Slater won his 10th World Surf League title. It was also a significant achievement for his career. All of this makes the surfer stand out from his rivals!

Apart from Kelly Slater, legendary road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong also got his day named after him.

The legendary surfer didn’t just receive his title because of his luck. He has earned it with the help of his coach, who guided him for a long time.

A legend behind another legend

Just after Kelly Slater posted his Instagram story about his own day. Slater thanked his first coach for his guidance in his next story.

“Our first coach #DickCatri giving a speech at my statue inauguration,” Slater mentioned and continued, “#Rip Dick and thanks for the early lessons every Sunday in front of the shop, our church!” 

Catri was his first coach, and he was present during the Kelly Slater Sculpture Project. Slater thanked him for his guidance, thanks to which he has reached a significant position in surfing.
