When the swimming legend Michael Phelps competed professionally, he hardly took a day off, not even on his birthdays. However, now that it’s been six years since he bid farewell to the sport, perhaps his birthdays are more happening than before. On his special day, his coach Bob Bowman shared some unseen pictures with the Olympic champion.

Michael Phelps turns 37 today, and although he may have retired from swimming, he has plenty more to accomplish. In his recent hall of fame speech, the 23-time Olympic gold medalist spoke about his new journey in the field of mental health. Perhaps that’s the purpose he was seeking post-retirement, and now that he has finally found it, he’ll be saving a million lives.

Coach Bob Bowman shared unseen pictures of Michael Phelps on his birthday

Bowman might have some fond memories of Phelps’ birthdays, as most of the time, they were training. Therefore, on his 37th birthday, Bowman shared some unseen pictures with the swimming legend on his Instagram handle. In the caption, he wrote“Happy Birthday MP! Love you!!”

Phelps and Bowman have a very special bond. After his mom and dad’s separation, Phelps saw him as a father figure.

He guided him throughout, not just professionally but in his personal life as well. Apart from his family, Bowman is the person he is closest to. Perhaps he has seen every side of Phelps, from being a champion to his darkest days.

Phelps didn’t like Bowman in the beginning

About his first encounter with Bowman, Phelps said, “I absolutely hated him. I never wanted to swim for him. I remember the first time I was playing around the pool and the only thing I would hear was that whistle and him yelling and I was like I’d never swim for that man.” However, once Bowman began training Phelps, they developed a strong bond.
