The swimming world is in for a bounty next year. American ace Caeleb Dressel will embrace fatherhood in February 2024. The seven-time Olympic champion was hoping for a girl, but in an epic gender revelation, he found his wife was pregnant with a boy. Now, the swimming G.O.A.T Michael Phelps is also on the same path, but after raising three kids, he is feeling more confident than ever.

Despite his readiness, his kids have thrown him a curve ball that even a legend like him could not dodge. Michael Phelps and his wife Nicole were caught off-guard by this pregnancy and needed “some time to process”. In the meantime, the three brothers are more than ready to welcome their new sibling and have a name for him that has caused a stir in the Phelps household.

Michael Phelps and wife Nicole have yet to decide on the name of the new scion on the Phelps clan. Like Caeleb Dressel, the Baltimore Bullet was also hoping to have a daughter. Nicole spoke to Today.com and revealed, “I would have loved to have a daughter for Michael so he could have that father-daughter bond that I experienced growing up”. Now that they are having a boy again, Michael Phelps is not sure what name to choose. However, here came some adorable help from the Phelps family itself.

In a hilarious update, Nicole said that the three youngest members of the family have approved the name Drifter for the baby. Nicole said, “They love the name Drifter. The running joke is that the baby’s name is going to be Drifter”. However, it is too early to decide on the name. The couple is still considering other options.

From the previous names of Boomer, Beckett, and Maverick chosen by the same couple, Drifter stands a good chance, though. The name Drifter connotes someone who is constantly on the move. It is also associated with the water in that a fishing boat is sometimes called a Drifter. However, wife Nicole Phelps’ words, it showed that the Flying Fish are not fond of that name. Despite the jovial mood of today, the tense mood of the past in the tough first trimester was not totally forgotten.

Michael Phelps’ wife’s tough pregnancy

Michael Phelps was by Nicole’s side constantly to support her during the first three months of her pregnancy. She revealed feeling “very, very sick” and needed care throughout days and nights. The doctors put her on medication that worked wonders, and now she is “feeling great”, although the discomfort is still there. She feels excruciating pelvic pain sometimes but does not show it to keep her kid’s spirits up.

The three boys are excited to meet their new brother…“The sweetest thing is how genuinely excited the boys are to meet their brother,” she says. “Having four boys will be crazy but wonderful”. Both experienced parents are getting ready to put their lives on hold for the next two years to care for their bundle of joy. Overall, it is a time of joy and celebration in the Phelps home.
