Behind every great athlete, there is also a mentor who has made many sacrifices. Every coach devotes time and effort to building and training their athlete for every competition. Similar to Bob Bowman, who has gone above and beyond limits to assist swimmer Michael Phelps. Additionally, Michael has proven his worth to the world by winning 23 gold medals at the Olympics throughout his career. In admiration of his successes, coach Bob once described swimmers as possessing superhuman strength.

In the history of swimming, Phelps has left a lasting legacy. He retired in 2012 but made a comeback later. He then finally retired in 2016 after an impeccable career.

Bowman’s bewildering description of Michael Phelps

Michael has achieved every penny of success and has made Bob very proud. At the 2014 Olympics, Phelps secured the top time in the 100-meter butterfly and the third best time in the 200-meter individual medley. In this race, he demonstrated why he decided to make a comeback from retirement in 2012.

Following this remarkable race, his coach described the environment that keeps Phelps motivated and commented on his strength. He said, “He thrives in this environment, he uses everything out there; he swims on emotion, he swims on intellect, he swims on whatever physical gas is in the tank.” Bowman said about his future races, “He’ll have more gas in his tank, and he won’t have to be so tentative.”

As a result of his wide wingspan, Michael is capable of pulling water with great force. Only Ledecky had achieved the number one ranking in the individual race before him. As he won the gold medal for his victory, Phelps marked his triumph.

According to the Men’s Journal, Phelps was required to perform double sessions three times a week when preparing for the Olympics. He set a weekly swimming goal of 80,000 meters. In addition to these activities, he performed his regular ice baths and stretching exercises.
