Trans swimmer Lia Thomas, coming forward with her side of the story, has given the controversy involving her a new direction. Debates and discussions about her eligibility for the women’s swimming events have been looming over since March. However, her decision to share her opinion has given everyone a better perspective on the entire matter.

It all started when Lia Thomas became the champion in the 500-yard freestyle event at the NCAA swimming and diving championships. Earlier, Lia used to compete in the men’s category, but after transitioning and going through a testosterone suppression treatment, she came back as a female athlete. Therefore, her victory brought her enormous attention, and within a few hours, she became a household name.

Caitlyn Jenner talks about who is at fault here

Although people seem to be divided over the subject of Lia Thomas’ candidacy as a female athlete, former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner believes it’s not her fault. In a recent interview with Fox News, she said“This is not Lia Thomas’ fault. She played by the rules … Really, my concerns are with the NCAA. Their rules have to be a lot more stringent. I think they have to be more difficult. I don’t think just one year of hormone replacement therapy is enough.”

Further pointing out what’s needed to be changed, she added, “I’m not blaming her. I’m just blaming the system right now. That has to be looked at.”

Earlier, the NCAA champion Lia Thomas spoke to ABC News’ Juju Chang about the entire controversy. It was the first time since her victory that she talked about her side of the story. Lia said“I knew there would be scrutiny against me if I competed as a woman. I was prepared for that but I also don’t need anybody’s permission to be myself and do the sport I love.”

Furthermore, speaking her heart out, she added“Trans people don’t transition for athletics. We transition to be happy and authentic and our true selves.”
