The Greene County Sheriff’s Office reveals that a 16-year-old from Brooklyn was swimming alongside friends. Upon leaping from a waterfall ledge with a companion, they encountered a formidable hydraulic current. Despite nearby swimmers’ attempts, one was unable to be reached. Divers from the State Police, Sheriff’s Office, and Athens Fire Department later recovered the victim’s lifeless body and was pronounced dead.?

Officials swiftly responded to drowning reports, reaching the scene around 7:45 p.m. Hours later, around 9:45 p.m. Thiam’s lifeless body was discovered ashore and later pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital. In another sorrowful turn, a search resumed for a missing 15-year-old who vanished while swimming off Coney Island’s shores.?
