Kristof Milak’s disappointing decision before Swimming World Cup 2023

On October 19, SwimmingWorld posted an update on Kristof Milak on X. According to the tweet, ?Kristof Milak will not return to competition at the World Cup in Budapest.? The 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion, who had started to train in August, had decided to return to swimming after pulling out of the Budapest leg of the Swimming World Cup 2023. According to sources, upon returning to training, things did not go as the 23-year-old swimmer had hoped to.

This decision comes months after Milak decided not to participate in the 2023 World Aquatics Championships held in Japan because of mental and physical issues. “I am not on the level, either physically or mentally, to be racing against the world?s best swimmers,” stated the Hungarian prodigy while highlighting the support he has received from his teammates during all these years.

The young swimming prodigy will not be making a comeback at the final leg of the Swimming World Cup in front of his home crowd in Budapest. Amid this decision, the athlete could not defend his 200m and 100m wins set in the 2022 Swimming World Championship hosted on his home soil.

Kristof Milak wins at the 2022 World Aquatics Championship

In the 2022 World Aquatics Championship held in Budapest, Milak won the 100m and 200m fly in Budapest waters. In the 200-meter butterfly event, the athlete broke his own record set at the 2019 World Championship by finishing the race in 1:50.34. With this win, Michael Phelps also appreciated the swimmer’s talent. According to Phelps, “I am glad I don?t swim the 2000-meter butterfly any more because Milak would crush me.” Following this win in the 100-meter butterfly, the athlete clinched another gold by winning the event in 50.14.

In essence, amid these back-to-back mesmerizing performances in 2022, Kristof Milak has indeed raised the bar of swimming.
