Cody Miller is placed highly among swimming fans in terms of personal exploits. While Miller’s accolades are certainly memorable, one particular feat has a special place among fans of the American swimmer. In 2019, Cody achieved a personal best that is now considered the stuff of the legends. Edging past Nic Fink in the center lane, the Olympic gold medalist set a new record in the 200m breaststroke, and it still feels like a surreal thing to Miller.

In a recent video clip on social media, the two-time World Champion Cody Miller can be seen still being in disbelief about that seemingly regular day at the office. With the 100m breaststroke not cutting the mark, Cody couldn’t wait to show the world what he’s really made of.

Miller looks back on his swimming glory moment

In the video uploaded by Miller on his Instagram handle, the swimmer says the 100m breaststroke finals went as bad as one could hope for. Adding more time to the heat clock, Miller placed last, and he couldn’t wait to get back to the pool to go all-in for the  “wild 200m breaststroke. I was seriously pissed off“, said Cody. But even he couldn’t predict he would have so much steam inside of him.

I touch the wall…and in my mind, I’m like that felt pretty easy“, Cody says. The 2016 Rio Olympics gold winner said he instantly felt the race felt good. But while he had a tentative idea about the possible timing of the race, the reality was far wilder. Only as he looked at the scoreboard, did he realize what he managed to pull off. But even at that moment, he couldn’t believe the “2.09” on the scoreboard.

That night, in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Miller was the second to finish the 200m breaststroke prelims. He went on to finish the final of the event with 2:08.98 seconds, also making it his personal best 200m breaststroke time.

Recent focus on getting back to his A-game

With the Paris Olympics around the corner, Miller has been trying hard to get his mojo back. Since 2016, when he won his Olympic gold in the 4x100m relay, his career hasn’t been exactly peachy. And it’s still not there yet. While the 2023 US Open didn’t end well for the former world champ, he did dish out some career-best moments during the tournament.
