19 Years After Michael Phelps Making America Happy, USA Team Gets Another Chance for Country Glory at Swimming World Cup 2023

Michael Phelps won his first Olympic gold in Athens, Greece. The swimmer, who is currently the most decorated swimmer of all time, clinched six golds in 2004 while surpassing his rivals in the pool. Interestingly, 19 years after the G.O.A.T. of swimming made America proud, a new U.S.A. team has geared up their goggles to swim in the Greek waters.

After facing back-to-back losses in Leg 1 of the 2023 Swimming World Cup held from October 6th to October 8th in Berlin, the U.S. team gained another chance for country glory in the second leg held in Athens, Greece. One day before the event, a 25-year-old swimmer was seen sharing a heartfelt moment with the young swimmers in Athens.

On October 12, Beata Nelson reposted a video on her Instagram story with the caption, “Clinic with some young talent in Greece today.” In the video, as the 25-year-old Nelson gears up for the second leg of the 2023 Swimming World Cup, which will be held from 13 October to 15 October, the athlete discussed taking part in the clinic. “It’s always fun when you are with young swimmers. I was once a young swimmer, and it’s great to connect with young athletes around the world,” said the athlete, specializing in short-course sprint events.

This elated video of Beata Nelson comes after the U.S.A. team faced setbacks in the waters of Berlin. Five-time world champion Nic Fink faced defeat as Chinese swimming prodigy Qin Haiyang won the breaststroke event by clocking in the second-fastest time in history. Haiyang won the event 57.69, while Fink could not secure a position by finishing the race fourth in 59.68. Apart from the 100-meter event, in the 400-meter freestyle, the men’s and women’s teams also faced a terrible loss.

A disappointing result in the 400-meter freestyle

After rekindling the hopes of the American fans in the heats by finishing the race second at 3:49.94, Kieran Smith was disappointed in the finals. The 2020 Olympics champion could only secure the third position (3:48.40), while Danas Rapsys and Victor Johansson secured the gold and silver, respectively. Following this setback, in the women’s 400m freestyle, Claire Weinstein, solely representing Team USA, finished the race last. The athlete completed the event in 4:18.56, while Erika Fairweather and Lani Pallister secured the gold and silver, respectively.
