7 Days After Bearing the American Flag, Kieran Smith Opens Athens Events With a Smile at Swimming World Cup 2023

Leg 2 of the Swimming World Cup 2023 has started in full action and the athletes are again back at it. With the commencement of day 1 in Athens, the swimmers are ready to rule over the place once again. After seven days of giving a thrilling performance in meet 1 the USA team, it has been a good start for meet 2 with Kieran Smith attaining one of the top positions. The swimmer faced a roller-coaster ride in the first stage; however, he saved his team from disappointment and is now back to doing what he does best.

This American swimmer is one of the best in the team with expertise in many events. His smooth skill has been a great save for the USA team in the 2023 World Cup as he was the only swimmer from Team USA’s men’s divisions to secure a post in the finals. The swimming enthusiasts are glued to their screens to witness the extraordinary performances of Smith once again.

After facing some ups and downs at meet 1 of the World Cup, Kieran Smith has started the second leg with a smooth opening. He, with his skills, has set his mark here on behalf of his team. Smith with his stupendous skills in the 400-meter Freestyle race, jumped in the water from Lane 4 and went towards the finish line with a thrilling speed.

Leaving behind the other athletes from New Zealand, Lithuania, Hungary, and multiple others, he attained the second position in the race. Surpassing Smith with a time of 3:52.07 was Norway’s Henrik Christiansen. Smith touched the finish line at 3:55.02.

According to World Aquatics, next to him was Zac Reid, from New Zealand in the third position with a time of 3:55.07. In fourth place was Lithuania’s Danas Rapsys with a time of 3:55.13. This was a good start for Kieran Smith keeping in mind his performances at Leg 1.

Being the only swimmer to nab a place in the finals, Smith tried his best to leave his mark in the 2023 World Cup. On day 2 of the Berlin meeting, the 400m freestyle Heat 4 race saw a terrific showdown between some of the best swimmers, and Smith came out to be the best of the lot attaining the top position.

Initially, the 23-year-old from Ridgefield, Connecticut, inspired hope for the first win of the day for the US team. However, things didn’t go the way as hoped. But Smith, defying all odds, made his way to the third position in the third split. However, with time, there was a huge shuffle on the leaderboard. Sweden’s Johansson went to the first position.

There was a heated face-off between Smith and the Sweden swimmer that kept the fans on their toes. In the final 50 meters split, smith took the lead, but Johansson with a burst of energy attained the first position, leaving Smith in the second position with 3.49.94 seconds. After this rocky experience, at the beginning of Meet 2 Smith has come back with a bang. Now the only wait is to witness him ace in all his events and stand at the podium.
