After three days of continuous swimming spectacles, the Berlin Swimming World Cup 2023 has finally come to an end. After all the athletes did their best in their respective events, some of them excelled and nabbed the final wins taking home the $60,0000 prize money. The most expected and deserving names on this list are of Qin Haiyang and Kaylee McKeown.

Both the players have proved their worth in Berlin by attaining several world records and nabbing various wins. Four other swimmers got the chance to stand at the podium attaining top positions in the finals.

The way the Berlin Cup started with a bang, it ended with the same energy as well. The world champions of the Berlin finals have received $12,000 each after their outstanding performances. The athletes in the second position attained $10,000 each and the third position received $8,000 each. Meet 1 of the Swimming World Cup has performances and wins from the swimming sensations and the underdogs as well.

The final session at Berlin today kicked off with the fastest heat of the men’s 400 IM. Following this, the Women’s 800 freestyle delivered some incredible wins. With such events and portrayal of talent, it has raised the standards for the upcoming Meet 2 from the 13th to the 15th of October.

The Berlin Champions of the Swimming World Cup 2023

With the end of the Berlin Cup, the champions of the 2023 Swimming World Cup have been announced. After their extraordinary performances, Australian swimmer Kaylee Mckeown and Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang have nabbed the first position and have secured the title of Berlin Champions for themselves. Their consecutive wins and speed of creating world records at this World Cup left audiences in awe.

Kaylee McKeown is an Australian swimmer and triple Olympic gold medalist. She is the world record holder in the long course 100m backstroke, and of both short and long course 200m backstroke as well. With her old records, she entered the Swimming World Cup 2023 with her eyes set on attaining the champion title and creating world records. On the 8th, Day 3, she broke her third world record of the weekend by nabbing the win with a time of 2:06.47 in the 200 backstroke.

In this record, she was more than three seconds off her own world record of 2:03.14 which she created in March. However, her performance was fantastic enough to surpass the record set by another Australian swimmer Emily Seebohm of 2:06.94 in 2015. With this, she also surpassed Seebohm’s record in the 100 backstrokes on the 7th of October 2023. She also broke Liu Xiang’s mark in the 50 backstrokes with a 27.24 on the 6th of October 2023.

Qin Haiyang stunned Berlin with his amazing performances. From the very first day of the World Cup, he ruled the Berline waters and broke the 100m breaststroke World Cup record twice. He swam with a time of 57.69 tying his own Asian record. The 24-year-old again created another record in the 50 breaststroke, winning with a time of 26.29. On the final day of the World Cup, he again nabbed the win in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:07.45, again setting a world record. His consistency is the reason he was standing at the top position with Kaylee Mckeown attaining $12,000 individually.

The athletes at the second position of the Berlin World Cup

After the Berlin champions, in the second position was, Italy’s Thomas Ceccon, and with him was Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufei. Standing at the second position, they got $10,000 each for their hard work and well-deserved win.

Yufei since day 1 made sure to make her mark by securing a gold to her name. On the 6th of October 2023, she nabbed gold in the Women’s 200m Butterfly with a time of a smooth 2:07.11. On day 2 of the Swimming World Cup 2023, she racked up the second position in the Women’s 50m Butterfly with a time of 25.14. On day 3 she was again back to her pace by clinching gold in the Women’s 100m Butterfly with a time of 56.74.

Thomas Ceccon gave an equally stunning performance. On day 1 of the World Cup, he attained his first win of the day in Men’s 200m Backstroke with a time of 1:56.64. On day 2, he again clinched gold in Men 100m Freestyle with a time of 47.97. He kept his superb consistency going on the third day of the event by nabbing another gold in Men 100m Backstroke with a win of 52.27. With his notable performances, he without a doubt deserved the win.

Danas Rapsys and Siobhan Bernadette on the third position with their remarkable performance

Standing in third position at the end of the Berlin World Cup 2023, Danas Rapsys and Siobhan Bernadette won $8,000 each. Their notable performances brought them where they are today. Bernadette did not attain gold on the very first day, but she fueled herself up as day 2 progressed. She clinched gold in the Women’s 200m Freestyle with a time of 1:55.10 and again won the first position in the Women’s 100m Freestyle on day 3 at the finals of the Berlin Cup.

Danas Rapsys also swayed the spectators with his incredible performances. He bagged the first position for himself on the very first day of the Swimming World Cup 2023 in Men’s 400m Freestyle with a time of 3:44.86. On Day 2 he attained a silver in the Men 200m Medley and on the 8th of October, the finals of the Berlin Cup, he again clinched gold in the Men 200m Freestyle with a smooth time of 1:45.75.

After such outstanding performances, the Berlin Cup, Meet 1 has ended with a bang. Now all the swimming enthusiasts are on their toes for Meet 2 almost knocking at the door. The next stop is Athens which will be held from the 13th to the 15th of October 2023 and excitement is pouring all over the swimming world.
