In the aquatic field, whale sightseeing is a fascinating advancement. Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard water bodies have been regularly surveyed for years. There was just one Orca that was usually spotted, “Old Thom,” off the coast of England. But surprisingly, last Monday, “four orcas” were seen together on the English shores. The New England Aquarium posted a tweet with the caption,” A unique sight from the sky: FOUR #KillerWhales swimming together! Last Sunday, Aquarium scientists spotted four #orcas on an #AerialSurvey 40 miles south of Nantucket. According to our scientists, it is unusual to see killer whales in New England waters, let alone four!”

Orla O’Brien, in the New England Aquarium Press release, said, “It is always unusual to see killer whales in New England waters.” Seeing them swim in formation was just unreal,” said O’Brien. “We confirmed that there was one adult male, one adult female, and two juveniles in the pod.” O’Brien said, adding the species’ population is very small western North Atlantic waters.

Besides the orcas, the New England team was also able to locate other sea creatures as well. In a seven-hour flight, researchers spotted 150 whales and dolphins from different families. These whales might be a development for the Aerial field, but as their name suggests, Orcas could also bring a sense of unsafety.

Killer whales, Orca!

Orcas are a combination of cunning and deadly creatures. Near Spain and Portugal’s shores, orcas started encountering boats in 2020. However, things worsened when these boats sank by these whales. These creatures attack these boats from behind with the aim of disabling the boat. However, no fatal injury has happened yet. Many researchers believe this to be a playful behavior, not an act of revenge.

Overall, the Ariel researchers are looking forward to further advances. Orcas are now venturing into English waters. The shift in their homes will lead to more sightings. The orcas would attract attention. But, only time will tell if the whales will continue to play their wicked antics in English seas.
