World Taekwondo President Unleashes a Visionary Blueprint, Propelling Towards “Most Respected” Sports Federation by 2025

The combat sport of Taekwondo has been around for quite a few decades. Emerging from the martial arts of karate, or Chinese martial arts, taekwondo has developed into a global sport and discipline. With its characterized techniques, the sport has also led the way to being a recognized sport at the Olympics. And administering the sport is the World Taekwondo Organization, working to provide effective governance.

The organization established to promote, expand, and improve the sport of taekwondo saw its new committee formed recently as it neared 50 years. Aligning with its principles and aims, the World Taekwondo president, Chungwon Choue, met with the committee on the 21st of September, discussing the further operations of the organization.

World Taekwondo Aims for Milestones

President Choue, on Thursday, met with his newly formed committee through a video conference. To stay in line with the committee’s aims, the first agenda on the list was to ensure that there was an alignment between the committees. And secondly, to discuss plans for the years ahead. Stating what the organization was run by, President Choue reminded the members that it was their sole priority to aim for the excellence of World Taekwondo.

“The past two cycles of the Committees have been somewhat disrupted due to the pandemic. During this time, we had the chance to rethink, review, and reset ourselves. Now, we restart our mission to be the most respected International Federation in the Olympic and Paralympic movements…” Choue said according to World Taekwondo.

Trailing along, Choue iterated that he would want the chairs to coordinate with their respective departments and set key milestones by the end of 2025. He also stated that, while the representatives took on their tasks, they must not deviate from focusing on their sustainability strategy.

Besides addressing the committee as a whole and exerting the collective goals of each department, Choue had another agenda on the list. Upon stating the organization’s common objectives, President Choue also had special requests for members of each committee.

President Choue Presents His Priorities

Moving ahead from company-aligned interests, Choue addressed each of the 5 committees individually. Starting with Technical and Games headed by Mohamed Shaaban, Choue tasked the department with ensuring the quality of the competitions emphasizing Paris 2024. Whereas Hassan Sadok heading the Education Committee stood to receive the second task. Choue expressed that he would want to increase the educational reach of Taekwondo to a wider audience; taking him with making it more accessible.

For the third, The Athletes’ Committee, co-chaired by Cheick Sallah Cisse, was handed a mission focused on athletes. Choue stated that the particular committee would be responsible for ensuring that the artists’ voices and interests are heard and represented mannerly. Following along with the focus on the athletes, the Coach Committee was asked to provide technical expertise. He is to work further to ensure the interests of the coaches. Robert Taaffe will head the fourth committee.

Marking the final task was the Finance Committee Chair Pimol Srivikorn; tasked to ensure the financial sustainability of the organization. Exploring newer sources of revenue is their key objective.

From participating as a demonstrated sport at the Seoul Olympics, the organization has treaded come far. World Taekwondo is now a member of the association of the Summer Olympics International Federations. President Choue’s listed rules and tasks provide an insight into the progressive outlook of the committee; providing a base for its successful walk down the path. While having 213 national associations, World Taekwondo continues to tread forward.
