USA Track and Field Olympic Legend Left Speechless by Coco Gauff’s “Ridiculous” Athleticism on Display at the WTA

The tennis community has witnessed an exciting season this year, with some of the best players giving the best performances of their lives. One player who turned heads this year was Coco Gauff. She is an American tennis player and has nabbed six WTA Tour singles titles which also inculcates a Major at the 2023 US Open. With this, she has also attained eight doubles titles. This American player has the career rankings of World No.3 in singles and World No.1 in doubles by the WTA.

This year, she gave an impressive performance which ended up catching the attention of a renowned track and field athlete, Michael Johnson. He is an American sprinter with an ideal number of accolades and recognitions. After watching Gauff’s Group stage match, he left an appreciation note for the tennis player’s win on his social media. His note explained the greatness of Coco Gauff when it comes to matches like this.

Michael Jackson is considered one of the greatest sprinters of all time and is a four-time Olympic gold medalist. He took to his X account to praise the tennis player. He replied to a post of WTA that carried a clip from the match on 4th November of Gauff, giving a stupendous performance. He penned, “The athleticism here is ridiculous. And this doesn’t even show the skill!”

This was a very interesting match where Vondrousova served for the match, but Gauff leveled the score at 5-7, 7-6(4). After winning this final round of group play, she became the first teenager to make the final four of the year-end championships since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009. This was the 51st win of Gauff in this season.

Every match of this season of the WTA has been incredible with the unmatchable skills of all the players. No amount of appreciation could match the immense talent these tennis athletes have shown this year. Iga Swiatek won the No. 1 position this year, but apart from her, another athlete who tried her best to grab the title was the No.3 Coco Gauff. She with her commendable skills in the match on November 4th against Marketa Vondrousova won multiple hearts. Recently, Gauff also expressed her mindset on the WTA Finals.

Gauff’s thoughts on the WTA finals 

After reaching the semifinals of the WTA for the first time, she made an evaluation of the finals of the event. This was the best season of her career so far, and it showed. She made an admission that her thoughts and outlook on the WTA Finals have changed after competing at the event. The championships that are held at the end of the year are considered to be one of the biggest events of the year after the four Grand Slams.

Gauff, after giving the best performances of her life in Cancun 2023, now has more value for the event. She expressed, “It would be cool to win it. To be honest, as a kid, I always dreamt of winning Grand Slams.” Adding to this, she further said, “I think as I’ve grown as a pro on tour, I learned more about what the WTA Finals is about. I’d definitely say that would be a goal of mine now.” However, after this match, she could not make it to the finals after losing to Jessica Pegula, who eventually lost to Iga Swiatek pushing her no.1 position in the event.
