Noah Lyles shows support for Zharnel Hughes

On July 22, the official Diamond League event account posted a short video with the caption, “Why are you being so modest, man? @LylesNoah backs @zharnel_hughes to break the 200m British record.” In the video, while being asked about breaking the 19.94 seconds set in 1993, Hughes stated that the athlete’s priority is to execute the Diamond League rather than focusing on breaking records. Further, the athlete talking about the record set by John Reign stated, “It?s something that?s on the board, and if it comes tomorrow, I?ll be happy.”

However, American sprinter Noah Lyles believes Hughes will most definitely break the record. The sprinter humorously accused Hughes of being modest while applauding the British runner for his staunch performance on the wet tracks of the Amsterdam 100 m race. The sprinter stated: “You just ran in a hurricane. We can get that [time] most definitely.”?
