Track and field athletes from around the country, like all others, are eager to hop on the NIL bandwagon as their professional careers take flight. In recent days, the NIL got more attention as one of the country’s top rising stars decided to make the most of his opportunities. Now, it looks like the program seems to be at the center of things as another of the country’s top recruits signs a meaty contract with sports apparel giant New Balance.

Only weeks ago, standout runner Marcus Reilly of Northbridge High School sent ripples across the nation after committing to the Michigan Track and Field program. The middle-distance runner claimed that his aspirations are high and Michigan offers him the perfect pastures to hone his skills. With the latest development, Reilly is set to become the NIL’s newest poster boy for young athletes to look up to.

High school track and field star makes move to secure future

In a post on X by the official Citius Mag account, Reilly’s decision to explore the business aspect of track and field has been highlighted. “Northbridge (MA) High School’s Marcus Reilly has signed an NIL deal with @newbalance“, reads the post without trying much to conceal the livid excitement of the prospect of such a collaboration. The MileSplit’s No. 14 recruit of the Class of 2024 recently signed the National Letter of Intent to run cross-country and track and field for Michigan, and it’s apparent that his business acumen isn’t too shabby either.

The post also underscores Reilly’s exceptional prowess as a cross-country runner. “Last year, he finished 8th in the 800m and seventh in the mile at New Balance Nationals Indoor,” the post states. Along with that, we’re also reminded of Reilly’s third-place finish at the mile run during the New Balance Nationals Outdoor. Moreover, the high school senior got a taste of international exposure when he represented the country in the U20 PanAM Championships.

The middle-distance runner will look to develop his abilities further under the iconic track and field coach Kevin Sullivan when he arrives at Michigan. While the NIL continues to aid athletes in securing their future, the program isn’t void of its fair share of controversies.
