American Athlete Brings Smiles Within a Blink of an Eye After 1500M Photo Finish at Zurich Diamond League 2023

The 2023 Zurich Diamond League has kicked off with a blazing start. Athletes from all around the globe have gathered in the Swiss city to compete at the grand athletics event. However, the American middle-distance runner Yared Nuguse came well-prepared for the Diamond League.
Yared Nuguse clinched the 1500m win at the 2023 Zurich Diamond League. The middle-distance runner triumphed over the Budapest World Champion Josh Kerr to claim the fabulous victory.
From 5th position at WAC to 1st position at Diamond League

Yared Nuguse is one of the prominent shining stars among distance runners in the United States. Nuguse had won the 2019 NCAA Division I Championship in 1500m middle distance running. The 24-year-old holds the North American record in both the 1500m Indoor and Outdoor categories.
In August 2023, the middle- distance runner witnessed Great Britain’s Josh Kerr take the win home for his country in Budapest. While Nuguse finished fifth at the World Championships, he decided to win the contest at the Zurich Diamond League.

Following this, Nuguse entered the Zurich racetrack with a definite objective and was adamant about the victory. The sprinter remained focused from start to finish. He made sure not to rush and exhaust himself early on in his pursuit of a win.

Yared Nuguse maintained his poise from start to finish to beat the Scottish champion by 0.02 seconds. Nuguse finished the long-distance run in 3:30.49 minutes to win the contest of speed, strategy, and endurance.
A social media post captured the smiling young man after his impressive victory over his competitor. All it took was the blink of an eye for the American champion to bring smiles to everyone’s faces. The hard-fought Diamond League victory adds to his fresh resume in distance running. After all, Nuguse was on a completely different track not a long while ago.
The journey from the biochemistry lab to the racetrack
Yared Nuguse studied at Notre Dame University and was majoring in biochemistry. The national 1500m champion was oblivious to his talent as well as the Diamond League.
In fact, Nuguse used to be on the bowling team at Notre Dame. His training regime involved a two-lap run that spanned a mile. “A year ago, I never watched any track, and I never really cared and yada yada yada,” he conceded.

The young prodigy used to blaze past the tracks of his university and completed the distance within just 5:30. The most impressive part about this was the fact that Nuguse had received no formal training.
The naturally talented speedster was later picked up for distance running by the coaches.

His decision to train hard as a distance runner back then has now gifted him a stunning Diamond League victory. The world now has another new beacon to look at in the 1500m middle distance category.
