The 2016 London Marathon witnessed a slightly disturbing as well as a heroic moment in world marathon history. Jemima Sumgong of Kenya was charging onto the course when a man dressed in black with a cap trespassed on the racing route. The man started to run alongside Sumgong, clapping his hands as the Kenyan continued her run.

A security marshal later intercepted the man and escorted him off the course. Despite this momentary distraction, Sumgong continued her unstoppable run. After all, she had just recovered from a vicious mid-race fall after colliding with a fellow competitor. Despite this, the Kenyan sprinter continued her run.
