Grave Injury Limits Jakob Ingebrigtsen to Defend 8 Year Glory as He Walks Out of SPAR European Cross Country Championships

The track and field community was extremely eager to witness the European Cross Country Championships. However, there has been a drop in the excitement level as one of the favorites for this championship will not be participating this year. The skillful athlete is none other than Jakob Ingebrigtsen. The defending champion will not grace the Cross Country Championships with his presence this year due to some injury and personal reasons.

The European Cross Country Championships is an annual international cross country running competition and Ingebrigtsen has been a six-time champion here. He with his absence this year has broken his streak of eight straight years of participation in this competition. The officials have made this disappointing announcement on their social media platform and the track enthusiasts are not happy about it.

The European Cross Country Championships will be held on the 10th of December in Brussels this year. This competition, which is organized by the European Athletic Association, will miss one of its valuable players Jakob Ingebrigtsen after his withdrawal from the race. The track community was taken by surprise after witnessing this news shared by the European Athletics on their social media handle.

They posted a picture of Ingebrigtsen and mentioned the reason behind the athlete not participating in the competition. The caption to this post read, “No Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships for the first time since 2015”. They further added, “After a recent injury, the six-time champion has chosen not to defend senior title in #Brussels2023. See you in 2024 Jakob!” The champion is suffering from an injury around the Sacrum area, and with this, he wants to be healthy for the Paris Olympics.

Jakob has been outstanding every year at this championship and has continuously proved his worth. He has clinched gold in this championship straight since 2016, be it in the under-20 category or in the last two years with the elites. He has had a great season this year and is now giving rest to his body to prepare for the upcoming season ahead of him.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s stellar performances in 2023

It is indeed disappointing news to witness Ingebrigtsen not be a part of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships. The two-time World 5000m champion has won the 2021 and 2022 senior championships and with this, he also won the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 U-20 European cross-country titles. The 23-year-old had an amazing 2023 season with his stellar skills and undefeated performances.

This year, he gracefully defended his 5000m title at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He also grabbed a sliver in the 1500m. With this, he proved his level of dominance in the 3000m race at the Diamond League Final, Prefontaine Classic. Not only his career on the track great, but he also experienced a great time in his personal life. He tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Elisabeth Asserson with a grand ceremony.
